The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour (HST) rolls into Watkins Glen International (WGI) May 31-June 2, 2024, for the season’s penultimate event supported by SCCA’s Finger Lakes Region.
The legendary 3.4-mile, 11-turn circuit will challenge more than 210 entrants over the weekend. The WGI event is also one of the last two regular-season chances to post points toward a Hoosier Super Tour Nationwide Points title.
For clarification: A single, winner-take-all race decides National Champions across Runoffs-eligible car classes each year. A first-time anomaly occurred in 2023 when dual Spec Miata National Champions were crowned after a dead-heat finish at VIRginia International Raceway. But normally, one grandiose Champion is exalted.
Outside of that, Hoosier Super Tour Nationwide Point Champions are named in each of 27 eligible classes. The points tabulation comprises a driver’s best six finishes across the 10-weekend, 20-race HST series; plus results from the Runoffs being held Sept. 28-Oct. 6, 2024, at Road America in Wisconsin.
Race winners earn 25 points, and 21 points go to runners-up. Points are then doled out to others starting with 18 and descending to a single point for the 20th finisher. That means competitors in the chase for a Hoosier Super Tour Nationwide Point Championship can enter the Runoffs with as many as 150 points, and the ultimate winner could amass as many as 175 points.
Per SCCA’s General Competition Rules, ties in Championship standings are resolved based on the finishing position of drivers at the Runoffs. If tied drivers do not participate at the Runoffs, ties are resolved by records of first-place finishes, then second place, then third, and so on as needed; including any finishes beyond a driver’s best six results. If two or more drivers have identical records, they are deemed tied for a Hoosier Super Tour Point Championship.
Don’t forget, a Hoosier Super Tour Point Championship and Runoffs victory are only two of three accomplishments that count toward the Summit Racing Equipment SCCA Road Racing Super Sweep award – the toughest honor to achieve in a single season. Super Sweep honors go to very skilled drivers who earn a Runoffs win, a Hoosier Super Tour Points Championship and a U.S. Majors Tour® Conference Points Championship – all within one class.
